Nickel et Penny étaient deux labels gérés par le dj radio Richard Pegue, éminence à Chicago pour son talent à redécouvrir des disques oubliés. Il était également compositeur, arrangeur et producteur des plus beaux disques de soul de Chicago des années 1960 et 1970. Dommage qu'ils aient été en rupture de stocks quelques semaines seulement après leur sortie. Quelques-unes de ces productions avaient pu revoir le jour grâce à la compilation Eccentric soul : Twinight lunar rotation de Numerogroup en 2007. Le label nous permet avec ce nouveau numéro de la série de savourer des morceaux rares de Jerry Townes, the Voices, the Norvells, Little Ben & The Cheers, South Shore Commission, Joyce Williams, The Halleluiah Chorus, Brothers & Sisters... et de suivre la biographie épique de Richard Pegue, décédé en 2009 alors qu'il travaillait à cette sortie depuis quelques années déjà.
