Résumé Cette sortie du label Soul Jazz Records est présentée au public en conjonction avec une exposition internationale qui s'est installée à la Tate Modern et au Brooklyn Museum, respectivement à Londres et New York. L'album est représentatif de la radicalisation politique des Africains aux Etats-Unis à la fin des années 60, et notamment à la suite des assassinats de Malcom X et Martin Luther King et de la montée des très célèbres Black Panther. Apparaissent ici des titres de Gil Scott-Heron, Roy Ayers, Don Cherry, Oneness of Juju, Sarah Webster Fabio, Horace Tapscott, Phil Ranelin et bien d'autres. Soul of a nation nous montre comment le thème de la politique a mené la musique noire à être de plus en plus consciente.
