Divers musiciens ont influencé Sheldrake lors de l'écriture de The much much how how and I parmi lesquels The Beatles, The Kinks, Moondog ou encore Stavinsky. Parallèlement, il s'est également inspiré de ses études d'anthropologie, son intérêt de toujours pour l'ethnomusicologie et sa découverte de Mardi Gras en Nouvelle-Orléans.
